Products & catalogueAdd categories and sub-categories

Categories are the shelves of your shop — “Grains & Rice”, “Spices”, “Tea & Coffee”. Add them before your products, so each product can go on one.

The video has no sound: the captions on screen explain each step, and every step is written out below with a picture.

  1. 1

    Open Categories

In the menu, under Product Master, open Categories. The list shows every category with its sub-categories under it.

    Step 1: Open Categories
  2. 2

    Start a new category

Press Add Category. In the box, keep Level on Category (Level 1) for a main category.

Step 2: Start a new category
  3. 3

Name it and give it a picture

Type the Name — this is what shoppers see in the menu and on category tiles.

Under Category picture press Choose picture. Pick a picture you uploaded before, or press Upload. Click the most important part of the picture, write a few words in Describe the picture, and press Use this picture.

Good to know: The description is required: screen readers read it aloud to blind shoppers, and Google reads it too.

Step 3: Name it and give it a picture
  4. 4

    Create it

Press Create. The category appears in the list.

Careful: The product form loads the category list when the admin opens. Reload the page (F5) before adding products to a category you have just made.

    Step 4: Create it
  5. 5

    Add a sub-category

Press Add Category again and choose Sub Category (Level 2) in Level. A new box asks for the parent: pick the main category it belongs under.

Type the name and press Create. It appears indented under its parent.

    Step 5: Add a sub-category
  6. 6

    Rename, hide or delete

Point at a category and press the pencil. In Edit Category you can change the name and picture, or untick Active to hide the category from the shop. Press Save Changes.

The bin next to the pencil deletes it after you confirm.

Step 6: Rename, hide or delete
